Janet Alling, painter

 

On exhibit is a selection of paintings dating from the 1980's and 2000's. Janet Alling works from live plants and flowers, in her studio in natural light. The backgrounds of clouds and skies are what she sees from her studio windows or from photographs which she has taken. She has painted floral subject matter for 45 years, starting in New York city where Ms. Alling lived for 40 years, and continuing in Providence where she moved 7 years ago. She works to show the energy of living plants and flowers, the thrusts of stems and leaves and blossoms as they move towards and with the light. This gives them a playful feeling of joy and happiness.
