Patricia Corbett, Painter

The  visual world has always captured Patricia Corbett’s interest and admiration. Born the oldest of 13 children, somehow she managed to find time to develop her passion for art, drawing and sketching from an early age.  One day her art teacher, Dr. Bluske introduced her to the Moonlight Sonata as a way to inspire the inner artist. She was so moved she began studying music. This ultimately lead to an international career as a professional opera/concert singer.
When Ms. Corbett joined the Connecticut art circuit she amazed all with her spontaneous ability to break out in song. She became known as the “beautiful songbird of the art world.”
Her art captures that same sort of spontaneous spirit, which can be seen in her surrealistic impressions of the Merritt Parkway by expressing what the original designers of the magnificent bridges intended. They wanted to have their work blend with that of the light and lyricism of the natural flow of the landscape. In her works you will see this harmony.
In a recent art residency in Italy she felt a kinship with the lyrical quality of the pastoral scenes. In her paintings, 40 in all, she clearly captured the simplicity of the countryside and its natural beauty!
“I paint because I must. Oil is my medium,” says Patricia. She goes on to say that she paints in the “impressionistic style with a surreal flavor.” Painting is the outpouring of her “deep desire to express the world we live in.”
Ms. Corbett has studied with many artists across the United States such as Sherrie McGraw, Ron Rencher, Kathy Anderson, Don Demers, Sandra Wakeen, Will McCarthy, Aline Ordman and John Massimino.  While visiting her daughter in Paris, France, she studied at the Academié Le Grand Chaumier.
