Tim Tolman was born in Salt Lake City, Utah where he received a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Utah and lives in Massachusetts and has a studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Tim owned a Rhode Island based digital design and marketing firm for over 20 years and taught advertising design and computer graphic design at RISDs continuing education program for over a decade.
Tim's landscape paintings are a combination of materials and approaches. From initial drawing and massing to deconstruction using paper and other materials. This breaks the image down to rebuild it over. The work is about how a painting can produce the traces of its own creation, the time it takes to apply the materials and the marks on the surface that reveal the process. Sometimes they recall memory and other times they have no memory. They get tangled up in time and in turn tell that story. timtolman.c
